The Emergency Treatment of Methyl Iodide The Emergency Treatment of Methyl Iodide

What protective measures should be taken during the use of methyl iodide cas? What should we do if the leakage happens by accident? The answers are as follows:

I. The emergency treatment of leakage

Evacuate the personnel from the contaminated area to the safety zone, isolate the contaminated area for 150 meters immediately, and strictly restrict the access. Cut off the fire. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and protective clothing. Do not contact with the leakage source directly. Cut off the source of leakage as far as possible to prevent it from entering restricted spaces such as sewers and flood discharge trenches.

Small amount of leakage: mix it with sand, dry lime or soda ash.

Large amount of leakage: build a dike or dig a hole for shelter. Cover the leakage with foam to reduce steam hazards. Then transfer it to a tank car or special collector with a explosion-proof pump for recycling or transporting it to a waste disposal site for treatment.

II. Protective measures

The protection of respiratory system: when the methyl iodide cas concentration in the air exceeds the standard, you should choose to wear self-priming filter type respirators (half mask).

The protection of eyes: wear chemical safety goggles.

The protection of bodies: wear breathable protective clothing.

The protection of hands: wear chemical-proof gloves.

Others: no smoking, eating or drinking at work sites. After work, take a bath and put on clean clothes. Store clothes contaminated with poisons separately, and wash them for standby application. Pay attention to personal cleanliness and hygiene.

III. First aid measures

Skin contact: remove contaminated clothing and rinse the skin thoroughly with soapy water and clear water. Go to a doctor.

Eye contact: lift eyelids and rinse the eyes thoroughly with plenty of flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. Go to a doctor.

Inhalation: quickly leave the site to places with fresh air. Keep your respiratory tract unobstructed. Give oxygen if it is difficult to breathe. Give artificial respiration immediately if the breathing stops. Go to a doctor.

Ingestion: drink enough warm water, promote emesis, and seek medical advice.

Extinguishing method: firefighters must wear gas masks and full-body firefighter uniforms.

Fire extinguishing agents: spray water, foam, carbon dioxide and sand.
