The Application of N-octyltriethoxysilane as the Impregnant The Application of N-octyltriethoxysilane as the Impregnant

N-octyltriethoxysilane is a kind of medium-chain alkyl silane with a monomolecular structure. It is a kind of colorless and transparent liquid that can be soluble in ordinary non-polar organic solvents (such as petroleum ether, toluene) and has a low viscosity.

N-octyltriethoxysilane is a kind of additive that is easy to operate. It will release a certain amount of ethyl alcohol when hydrolyzing with water. It can be used as a surface modifier for inorganic fillers and pigments to create the hydrophobicity of materials so that minerals or pigments can be added to polymers.

Impregnation is the process of spraying the surface of a silane concrete structure. Different spraying methods or tools include roller coating, high-pressure spraying, airless spraying, etc.. Different silane products and different construction positions will be determined according to different requirements of engineering design documents.

N-octyltriethoxysilane belongs to a relatively stable small molecular structure. After being coated on the concrete surface, it can penetrate into the interior of the base material, react with the water in the base material to form a network of silicone polymer protection structure, and finally form a strong hydrophobic layer on the surface of the base material, so as to prevent and resist the occurrence of steel corrosion and concrete corrosion as well as improve the durability of the concrete structure. This kind of silane impregnant is mainly used in tidal quay, nuclear power plant engineering, high-speed railway/highway, bridge, and tunnel, as well as projects under various freezing and thawing conditions. In conclusion, silane impregnation is spraying silane on the surface of the concrete.
