This product is obtained by the polymerization of methacrylic acid and ethyl acrylate, with a portion of the methacrylic acid units neutralized by sodium hydroxide. It is an anionic copolymer based on methacrylic acid units that forms a dispersion in water. Insoluble in gastric fluid, it forms salts upon contact with alkali and dissolves in weakly alkaline solutions, thereby providing an enteric coating that dissolves in intestinal fluid at pH 5.5 and above.
